INFI is like crack...once you have an INFI blade (especially a chopper), your INFI desire isn't satiated. On the contrary, once you have tried one you will want to try another, and another, and so forth. Just my 2 cents! That being said, Dan's knives are also instant classics, and with the same warranty as Busse you can't go wrong. I consider the oldschool Scrap Yards (DMCG, S6, ect) to be on the same level as Busse Combat for sure. There is something about Res-C with a nice thick blade that has always been appealing to me... Put a penetrator tip on it and I MUST HAVE IT

I have ALWAYS maintained that any collector of Bussekin knives MUST own at least one INFI knife. Otherwise they'll never know what it's like to possess "the best of the best". If the S5LE is your first INFI knife, your decision to purchase it is spot on. If it's not, you just got some more "best of the best" to play with. Either way, you win.

INFI is my all time favorite steel and insiders like mike stewart have said they believe INFI to be A8 tool steel with jerry's proprietary heat treat.

while mike is extremely knowledgeable we have no way of knowing if he is correct or not.from what i've heard the busse crew vehemently deny that INFI is A8.

other than this topic i've never even heard of A8.i wonder why you dont see others using it.

i personally believe that the secret of INFI was passed onto jerry from the ancient egyptians who themselves first learned of it when they where visited by the aliens.

Nonsense! It was the Elves. Jerry scored a piece of Anduril (He refuses to explain how) and set in a culture solution he learned from the Dwarves. Then he gets drunk and recites occult passages from Goethe's grimoire, playing Paul Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice over and over. Soon the Elven steel replicates itself. The more INFI the Busse boys need, the more tanks and loudspeakers they install.

That is the true origin of INFI. Don’t let anybody tell you different. If Jerry ever sobered up, the spell would stop working and there would be no more INFI.

Agreed. But I'm obliged to address the question you didn't. Does INFI's superiority in the areas you've identified warrant it's three times (give or take) price increase over SR77 and two times (give or take) price increase over SR101? For some, the answer is "yes". For some, the answer is "no".

Viva la difference!

Your question can be also adapted to say "Does SR-77's superiority warrant it's several times price increase over 440A?" (just remember the Cheaper Than Dirst Rough Use Knife in the destruction tests performed by Noss)

Now, regarding SR-77 vs INFI,
In most cases I would say "NO".
But you know, there come a small percent of situations where a +10% of durability and a big plus in wear resistence and +50% rust resistence together in the same blade might worth to pay several times more to have it with you when you need it. If you have the money and if you really need that difference, the answer is a big "YES". Sometimes a small plus in some areas can make your life several times easier, so that it may worth paying several times more (that applies if you also have the money, of course).

I figure its like cars espeicaly race cars.......

Do you need the 1% incress in pro? willing to pay 3 times that of a standard part?

i think there is a mythos around infi now... its ok stuff but man i like the other steels too... many of my knives dont require this ... a few knives like my SHTF knives tend to be over kill... cause you never know ... but do i need an infi knife for parring ... probably not (but i want one).... i expect a lot of my knives and i dont see my other steel blades giving out with my normal use...

want and requirement are two very differnt things.... for the most part no i cant justify the incress in cost but i over come it with the want for tastie toys...
