I just drove all the way to the gym and "24 Hour Fitness" is closed til Sunday.... Slackers.
We aren't going to have any bad weather for at least 24 hours. And north Houston isn't New Orleans. I am about 90 miles from the coast. (near Dan's old stompin grounds).
Sure, it looks like the [censored] thing is headed right at us now. But, so. Some wind, some rain, some limbs likely blown around and maybe some trees down.
Electricity might go out (????) ... It is not the end of the world.... and there shouldn't be any concerns till tomorrow night at earliest.
Yes, it is prudent to have a few days worth of non-perishable food and water.... Why don't people have this anyway????
I can appreciate evacuating coastal areas, low flood prone areas, old-folks homes and such. But, the rest is just hysteria - created by sensationalist media and hyper-sensitive people (canaries) these days.
Canary in a Coal Mine I am not trying to make terribly light of the potential severity of Ike or any other hurrican. I understand they can cause devestation. But, I just have to believe there are very few significant issues likely to occur in my neck of the woods.
It was a pretty nice sunny evening. Walked the dogs, but then wasted a trip to the gym.
Luckily, we have gas in the cars. Gas stations are going dry. My sister-in-law tried around 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. and had to try 8 gas stations.
My wife had to go by the store today (around 1:00 as businesses were closing work early ) to get some cream cheese (cheesecake for a buddies B-day) and O.J. - Apparently, the shelves got wiped clean and the lines were horrible.
I don't have a generator and it is still in the 90's here in Houston. So, no A/C WILL suck if electricity goes out. But, if electricity goes out..... the rest is like camping....just hot sweaty camping here in Houston.
