I agree, I have gotten up a lot more this year than in years past and I am still trying to get one more trip in before snow fall. The Wife is in the process of making us a boy... Not so sure I want that but I guess my desires no longer matter. She did however buy me a sword (LoTR), so that is really cool, lol. She also allows me to purchase pretty much what I want in terms of knives and is, for the most part, ok with me purchasing guns. We each have an allowance to use what we want it for.

I use knives for opening just about everything. I use them to cut my nails and cuticles (often ending up a bit bloody to the annoyance of The Wife). I use them to carve wood. I recently used my hatchet to cut up our hurricane Ike blown down shed. When (if) the SoD comes it will be used to clean up the back yard and for a camp knife.

I hope to be healthy enough to go camping sometime soon. Although with The Wife's current, uh, condition, I doubt I will be able to go camping for a long time.

Being a certifiable knife nut... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I use my knives for just about anything and everything I can I guess... within reason that is... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> And of course I use knives on a daily basis for making pants...

I get used to using certain knives for certain tasks and even leave knives in certain places all over the house just for those purposes... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> Good thing my kids are old enough to leave them alone or at least respect them. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />



Toast, congrats on the little one that's on it's way, it's a wonderful thing and although little ones can be a handful, they can be so precious and rewarding too, it will definately change your life. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I started knife collections for both of mine before they were even born. Nothing fancy though, just what I could get here and there. Fortunately they're both old enough now to keep up with them themselves. It brings back memories to think back to when they were too young and they would ask me to get their collections out. With careful supervision I'd let them look through and study the different blades and ask me questions about them and the usual "when can I have them daddy"... awe the memories.

I use my everyday knife (Fallkniven H1/3G) for everyday tasks like opening, trimming, separating, whittling. What else should one do with a knife? Sort of like asking what the purpose of a pencil is. :P

My DFCG sees much rarer use. I've used it to split firewood, mangle rampant vegetation, and harvest some likely sticks for various things. It's a fun tool, but the sheer size of it limits what it can be used for (and how long you want to carry it). My most frequent use of it is as a trail maintenance tool, and it does this job well.

I forgot about what I use my EDC folders for! I was thinking only of fixed blades! As for my folders, I use those for everyday cutting tasks. Those are things like cutting open packages, boxes, or cutting tags off of purchases. The funny thing is that whenever anyone in my family or my girlfriend's family need to cut something, they know who to ask for! It's only funny because none of them really understand the steel addiction, but they sure do like knowing where to go when they don't have a pair of scissors handy!

Well... I too use mine for everything I do. I carry two folders and two fixed blades every day. I love my fixed blades because they all have Rainwalker leather Creations on them and it makes me feel good working and shopping and strutting around town with my "Man Jewelry" on. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Through the day I cut food,pick bugs from corners by the baseboards in homes I clean. I cut stray tags and fibers whenever I see them. I hate tags on rugs,throws and pillows. Drive me mad! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

Around the yard I cherish my Dog Father who cuts all the Pine,Spruce,Fur, and evergreen trees around the house. I own a nice trimmer but using the DFCG I am having worlds more fun. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Some of my Scrap Yard collection I just carry. The "LE's" don't see duty. Just fresh air. When we go hiking on the weekends I always fight with myself on which Scrap Yard to take. Great problem eh?! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

So all in all they ride on both hips every day and my front pockets house two folders..one is tactical from Pat Crawford the other a really nice custom from Mark Laramie that cuts the caps off my cigars during the day. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I've used a DogFather to cut a couple peep holes in an old exterior door.

I've also used a Dumpster Mutt to cut up the sidewall on a tire as well as punch holes in a truck's oilpan.

The other day I used my DFCG to ... er, "dismantle" a dead boombox. The screws holding it together needed a screwdriver about 6 inches long to get down to them. No user-serviceable parts, dontcha know. So I hacked, stabbed and pried it open. Pretty effective. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I managed to gash the speaker grill without noticing, went right through it like... well, a really good knife through crappy sheet metal.

(All I wanted was the neodymium magnets that were part of the read head.)

Like most on here, I use my knives as often as I can.
The bigger knives get used for "yardwork" types of chores, while
some of the smaller knives get used for more creative tasks.

Last Saturday, I used my DMDC for putting peanut butter on my toast <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

My Koster Bushcraft was used to slice olives to juice up one of those home bake
pizza's the other night.

I carry my DF with me all the time during deer season. Use it to clear shooting lanes, remove small trees, and occasionally whittle a twig or two while I wait for deer.
