lately i've been using my BDLE to cut all the limes for my tequila{thats a lot of limes} and i got to thinking that the BDLE would be one nasty self defense weapon.
some may say one of the DF's would be the best due to pure size, heft and brute power.i am undecided on which is a better size for SD.obviously for a larger animal like a blackbear or something the bigger the knife the better.
i can say that out of any of the knives that could be EDC'd i think the BDLE with its long, thin, super pointy and curved blade could would be the most efficient stabber and cutter when were talking flesh, animal or human.
the grip the on the large mudder res-c handles and their design is hard to beat and a knife like that is going to be very quick in the hand.
also for political/legal considerations in not too bad.the courts would look at self defense with a leatherman or SAK differently than they would with some knarly draggon slayer blade or a super tactical strider with "nightmare" grinds on the blade.
the only thing is the scrapyard logo with the mean looking dog.
so what do you guys think is the best scrapyard knife for self defense??

The BDLE probably is the best choice...although I might prefer a S6 just to be sure.

+1 on the BDLE. Easy to conceal, and I'm sure it is a wicked slasher. I think anything bigger would be difficult to hide, and probably not that comfortable to wear concealed. On the other hand if I were in a wooded/field environment, I would go with an SOD or larger, and wear it on my belt. Just my 2 cents.

The BDLE is a wicked little light pointy slicer. For concealed carry, I think it and the SS4 are best. For flat out full combat, I'd go with the S6....after I ran out of bullets.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

For me the SS4 or S6 sounds best. Knives like the BDLE have never been my style although I have no doubt that my dad would have loved the BDLE the best for self defense. His experiences in WW2 evidently taught him something, that made a blade like that special. To him a good fillet blade was good for much more than cutting a fish.

I don't know of anything else that would take its place. And the guys could do it in 154- 101- 77 or even 5160 would be very sweet.

Easy, the YARD KEEPER. this blade is seriously underrated. its a tank and small enough to conceal. and far more tough than the Bird Doggie

I would go with the Khukuri or sword that Dan will be releasing in a week or two...
Yes ordawg1, the Pig Sticker would be a pretty nasty defense blade.
As far as current Scrappers go, the BDLE has an excellent fighter style to it.

Can anyone post a pic of the BDLE and the Yard Keeper?
I would think that a Mud Puppy or a SS4 or a Lean Mean or a Mean Street would be wicked little knives for a lethal response. Easy to conceal, long enough to give enough penetration to allow hits to vital organs and deep arteries...or so I've read
A good slicer/slasher would give you the ability to cause non-lethal cuts that will yield lots of blood. A very effective, very visible deterrent...so I've read

Kind of poor pics, but they're all I have access to right now. Take into consideration how lethal the BDLE is for "pig sticking" someone. One quick strike between two ribs, and you've either hit the heart or a lung. Very lethal I'd say. Although I love the Yard Keeper, it wouldn't be nearly as effective for such attacks.

Ok, now that I've seen the BDLE again I have to revise my previous statement a little bit regarding a SD knife. That little critter looks like it will slash and thrust with equal ability. It has the nice upswept belly for good slashing ability, and a wicked tip for thrusting. The blade looks long enough to be able to hit internal targets adequately, and although I've never held a mudder grip, from what I've been told, it would be pretty easy to hold onto if wet (water or blood).
Looks like it would be a pretty good little knife for fishing too
