I've gotten more into fire building in the past few years for some reason. When I was younger it was just get together with some friends and throw some wood in a pile soak it in gasoline and light it with a Bic!Nowadays I like to hike off into the woods with maybe just a firesteel or maybe not even that. It's alot of fun experimenting with different techniques that I've learned from books and even television.Just in my house I've found that the two most flammable tinders that ars readily availabe are toilet pape and dryer lint, both will catch with the slightest spark. [img][image]http://i354.photobucket.com/albums/r406/johnpzane/100_0253.jpg[/img][/image] What are some of your favorite fire building techniques or devices?

There ya go, takin my Ratmandu again!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Nice pic. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

+1 on the dryer lint.
Dryer lint mixed with vaseline works extremely well too!
Extremely messy tho.

My PSK contains a small stick of fatwood, pj balls and a bic.
Have a firesteel on my sheath as well.

Cheers

Yeah you can never have enough fire making options.

I was on another forum once when I was just starting my journey into
the wacky world of wilderness survival.
Proudly posted a pic of the firestarter kit that I had then, and some
guy posted a reply asking me if I was going to take the kitchen sink too <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

His suggestion for a firestarter kit was that I just take pj balls and
a firesteel. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

Well, since that time, I've trimmed the kit down quite a bit, but have to admit
that I'm not exactly a minimalist when it comes to having the ability to start a
fire. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

My firekit is usually a swedish firesteel, waterproof matches, some dryer lint, one of those magnesium fiestarters(the little bar with the flint on one side)and 1 or 2 of those little starter logs.Everything together weighs about 8 oz.

What is wrong with gas and a Bic <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />? It works great <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />.

I need to practice with the firesteel and various tenders.

Gas is certainly very dangerous, I know a guy cough cough, who managed to burn all the hair off his chest. Also he burned the inside of his mouth and blistered the inside of his nose where gas fumes managed to ignite. What an idiot right? He really got lucky.

Watched a guy use gas to kill wasps, it kills them on contact for what its worth. The cheap water gun he used, the kind that is basically a giant syringe, melted after one spray though. That gas is mean stuff!

No caughing on that one.

ewwwww. One could if they were so inclined could create a napalm like substance by melting styrofoam in gasoline. I hear it burns for quite awhile.
