It's been Christmas for me today!

I came home to find the box from Lee Valley, containing all the belts I ordered for my Kalamazoo belt sander coming to me, a box with my new Dovo straight razor that was back ordered, as well as a box with the Ferro rod, Magnesium rods, and Tuf Cloth that I ordered. Yipee! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I was so excited opening all the new accessories for my knives, and playing with the Ferro rod, striking sparks. (I ordered the 1/2" x 12", the largest available)

Then, I started wondering when my new belt sander would show up... KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK! Huh? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

There's the UPS guy at the door with my sander! WOO HOO! They charged me $91.00 in brokerage fees! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Well, at least I have it now.

The only downside to today was when I opened up the box, and noticed that the free X-weight sanding belt they sent with it was ripped. DANG IT!

Does anyone know where I can order some of these belts? In comparing them to the ones I got from Lee Valley, they have a much better backing for when you're doing any reprofiling.

I've already christened the Kalamazoo; I started practicing my skills on a cheap $25CAD Cold Steel machete, and a couple knives I brought back from Afghanistan. WOW! I'm loving this thing! Very easy to pick up how to put a razor edge on the straight part of the blade, but I gotta practice on getting the edge on the curved portion. It'll come with time.

HornDog, watch out! My weekends are gonna be spent becoming an expert on this thing! I might just become as good as you at putting a scary sharp edge on Bussekin blades! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Why not? Practice makes perfect, tyger. I am still learning myself. You will be good enough to do most jobs very soon. At least you are starting out with a great machine. Besides, I can't very well sharpen all the knives, can I? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I've been meaning to pick up a giant ferro rod one of these days myself! These little tiny suckers are just not my style! If I'm using a ferro rod, I want to throw LOTS of sparks!

No worries; was it one of the ones I sent to you about, or one you found on your own? BTW, feel free to send it up to me when I've got my sander skills mastered, and I put a nice edge on it for you. I might even send it back to you. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Congrats on the new toys, Tyger! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Those Ferro Rods are cool, I've been eyeing one of those 1/2"x6" ones myself...

Thanks Guys! I was having some fun with all the new toys, and look forward to when I feel comfortable enough to use the new sander to convex one of my Bussekins, but that's a little ways away just yet. I'll mangle my cheapo blades a little longer before that occurs! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

As soon as I get my camera back from my buddy, I'll have to take some pics of my little knife sharpening corner in the garage. I find I'm spending more and more time out there, so I ended up putting a shelf stereo out there so that I have some tunes while I'm playing! Aaaah, boy have their GIJoes, and men have their powertools!

They charged me $91.00 in brokerage fees!

------------------

ALWAYS ALWAYS use USPS. NO brokerage fees, and they seamlessly integrate into Canada Posts delivery system. You pay Duties at the post office when you pick it up or when Postie dude dops it off.

UPS = <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/footinmouth.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
