Typically, pictures posted to the internet become part of the public domain. That's certainly the case with pics uploaded to image hosting services like Photobucket.com. As long as you give credit to the original poster, you should be able to copy his/her pictures to your hard disk without requesting permission in advance, upload them to your own Photobucket or other image hosting service account, and then post them here. Or, if you're using a Windows workstation, you can simply right-click the original image, go to the bottom of the menu and click on "Properties", highlight and copy the Address of the image, and then post it here preceded by an [img] prefix and [/img] suffix. Try it. You'll like it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Well... hopefully you get his permission. But you most certainly DON'T HAVE to have it. Once you put pics on a hosting service, that's it. You don't retain much in the way of rights to them. Whether someone perceives it that way or not.
Now, it's a totally different situation if someone has his own website on which he can host pictures. Sigh, we've had this discussion before. Posting photos to the internet does NOT put them in the public domain. Giving credit to the photographer doesn't make it OK. Neither does posting them to Photobucket - http://photobucket.com/copyright and http://photobucket.com/termsWhile the terms do give license to use the image elsewhere, it only applies as long as the image is actually hosted by the original artist on Photobucket. If it is removed the license to use it is revoked. Pay specific attention to this line - After you remove your Content from the Photobucket Website we will cease distribution as soon as practicable, and at such time when distribution ceases, the license to such Content will terminate. If after we have distributed your Content outside the Photobucket Website you change the Content’s privacy setting to "private," we will cease any further distribution of such "private" Content outside the Photobucket Website as soon as practicable. Posting pictures online does not put pictures into the public domain; the copyright remains solely with the author, unless the author chooses to give it or sell it. Doing as you say is illegal; it violates the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. You are irresponsibly giving misinformation which is personally harmful to me, and encouraging people to break the law and put themselves at risk. Please cease. And for all readers here: You do not have permission to download nor host my pictures. I will protect my copyrights. If I find out that my pictures are being stolen, I will seek legal recourse against you, for the fullest damages possible. And, if you are stealing my work and hosting it, then through picture search sites like tineye.com, eventually I will find you.
