I need a great all around 7" plus blade. I've been eyeing the SOD and the Chopweiler. Which of these two would be recommended by you? Or maybe another Bussekin in this length range? Remember, an all around blade.

Thanks gents, Mark

I have both, and I'm partial to the Chopweiler.

They both have their strengths. The SOD is lighter, tougher, and less expensive. The Chopweiler has slightly better edge holding and is still extremely tough. Either one will serve you well for an all around big blade. Both will chop very well for 7.5" blades.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Chopweiler has the superior steel, SOD has the superior handle for chopping - IMHO, of course.

I have an unused SoD, and am deciding whether to hang onto it, or let my last remaining piece of SR-77 go. SR-101 is just such an awesome steel that it's quickly becoming my favorite, even over INFI (when you factor in the price difference)

I would pick the CW in this case. An all around blade means it needs to do small cuts AND chop big! With that said, I have 2 SODs and I love them both! You can't go wrong with any of these blades.

by ALL means, GET RID OF YOUR SR77 steel. You dont need it anymore. Ill take the SOD

I don't have either of those knives, so my opinion on this particular topic has no basis in reality, except I've got experience with both steels. I think either would serve you well.

I don't think you could go wrong with either blade. I would wonder if you would really see any inferiority in either knife. I think both would be a great option!

There is no bad choice. Both are outstanding. I am going to get both, and I did the same discussion and research that you seem to have in process. The SOD is legendary around these parts, for good reason.

I have a SOD LE and love it. The SOD LE was my second SY knife, the first was a SOD CG that a friend talked me out of.

I also have a SR CW that I just got not too long back but have not had a chance to take out to use. I do think it has a slightly better balance for me. I do feel the Res C handle is a better choice for ease on the hand when chopping.

I have a CG SOD and like it, don't get me wrong. But I bought it because it was a more affordable and more accessible substitute for the Chopweiler.

I was able to buy the SOD when it was in the SYKCO store. But if I were to chose now, I'd go with the Chopweiler.

I'll get a CW one day though, no worries, and as the Hogs say, "no regrets!"
