As long as reliability is not sacrificed I would consider the new multi-mode flashlights. You get long battery life and high lumens in one package.

I hear they are pretty reliable.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Sadly, in my experience, multi-mode lights have not been reliable. I wouldn't mind trying a newer one though. The utility of a multi-mode light can't be beat in some circumstances.

Which light was it? What was the problem with the light?

I have have 2 Fenix lights loose the ability to switch modes (stuck in low and both were fixed under warranty), a Princeton Tec head lamp with a broken switch (fixed under warranty), a Surefire A2 Aviator that would only trigger low (fixed under warranty), and a there may have been others that I can't think of right now. I think I will always just prefer things like lights and knives to be as simple as possible. On and off work for me, especially if I am trying to run a gun with my other hand.

Thats a lot of lights that failed and I'm sureprised because they are high quality brands too.

I only have one multi mode light and it was a cheap marataac 1AAA battery with low, med, and high. Had it for a while now and carry it a lot. Havn't had any problems yet. I'm thinking of getting the quark 2AA model, think it has like 5 or 6 modes.
