Bors - I've noticed that before - I actually asked my Sergeant about it at the old PD that I used to do reserve work for - I noticed that my top 2 rounds in my magazine had little wrinkles in the casings from repeat chambering. He told me that he never takes his out of the chamber and doesn't have to worry about it - so I've tried to take mine out less frequently - I always keep one loaded in my bedside pistol safe anyways... Great info though - I'm going to take a few rounds out of my magazines as a result of your post.

I can't believe that you're not supposed to load a round more than 1 time though - that is just unreasonable!

Yes I agree but.... rotate the top rounds and run them through the callipers if the length doesn't change your good to go

Just check its overall length against the others. If it isn't shorter, its ok.

Dan,
Did you look into the S&W 460. It takes nor only the 460 but the 454 and 45 long colt too. I will be getting one in there survival kit soon.

I did look into the 460 but it is like a 454 on steroids, not much fun to shoot. The 454's are ok and 45's feel like a 22 plinker.

My favorite caliber has always been the 44 mag. I have been shooting one since I was 14 year sold, but it has been replaced by the 500 S&W because of inherent accuracy with all loads and the little felt recoil/kick.

44Mag is a hammer Dan! I haven't shot one for years - I think I was about 19 when a buddy of mine picked up a snub nosed 44mag - we each shot a couple rounds and he turned around and sold it! Just brutal compared to the Glocks and Berettas that we had then... I would probably think differently now though.

Vic and Bors - thanks for the tips - I'll check my bullet lengths.

So would it be safe to say you are a fan of Dirty Harry?

"I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?"

I used to shoot a 429. It was sweet, but I like the .357 fine. Faster follow up shots on intruders. I stiil have a Winchester 94 in .44 magnum.

With a S&W 686+, you get seven shots. That could be a REAL suprise for the punk who gots to know.
