As far as for chopping through wood, does a flat grind go through better/deeper than the sabre? It seems like the sabre might get stuck easier but without having back-to-back experience I don't know if that is just theory or reality.

im not a fan of desert tan honestly , but man it looks good on the df it really really does... I'm not a big fan of the color normally but I do like heavy blades and this one seems to be the heaviest of the group. That factor may outweigh the color preference.

Garth also indicated that there had been a few arctic white DFs, but I've never seen one. Another nuance is that the Original (black) DFCGs and the "dog bowl" military overruns were sterile; the others have logos.

I find that saber grind chops a bit easier, due to extra weight behind the swing, but full flat will often baton easier, because it doesn't have that sharp angular transition which can dig into the wood and slow the blade down.
For chopping, a full flat can potentially bite deeper, but when you're chopping with good form, alternating side to side to cut out a wedge, the small difference in biting depth is less important than having the momentum to send chips flying.
Now, if you have a HUGE difference in bite depth, like, say, a machete versus a dogfather, then the difference will probably be more noticeable. That's why my very thin CS LTC kukri (still a saber grind, but a much thinner blade) or Horn Dog's machete's chop so much better than many "choppers". Those very thin blades can bite really deep, and remove a lot of wood quickly.
And adding even more confusion to the battle is the issue of fatigue, a lighter chopper or machete is going to wear you out less than a heavier one, although the weight of the heavier one will do some work for you.
It's a balancing act of a bunch of different stuff that will vary wildly with preferences and personal style, so your only solution is to buy a whole bunch of both, and decide which you like best

Darn, it can't be easy! No one can say which is "best". I always liked Black on Black so I think I'll try to find one.

I have only used the original DF and the LE. I prefer the lighter handling of the DFLE, but I admit, the saber grind original was heavier and a better pure chopper.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I'm sticking with my bookend Dogfathers, the LE and the DDF.

The biggest difference is that I only have a DFLE, not a DF or DDF.
Send me one of those extra DDFs and I will give you a real, true comparison of both!

My new DDF's are different from each other, either by thickness and in grind heights.

I found a trade for a Black DFCG on Bussekin Groups so I will be able to do some shape and weight comparisons of the two. The DDF seems pretty heavy, I'm hoping the Black DF is just a little lighter.
