...Not wanting customers to provide "accurate" and detailed "pictures" of what they want to help provide clarity ..... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> ....
I was kind of confused also when I saw that on BF as well. Then I started thinking that there has to be a good reason for it.
Only things that I can think of are legalities or the "perception" of copying another knifemaker's design. I think the Busses want to make it clearly their own interpretation of an idea, rather than copy of a design.
What if the photo or design is copyrighted by the poster or another knifemaker who the poster "borrowed" it from? Can't possibly know if it is or isn't for so many designs. Even if not a legal issue, Busse can't afford to have someone claiming or bragging that the Busses stole their design. Even if they didn't, it would still be bad mojo. Not worth the hassle.
So, I'm good with the contest as it is. The great news is that they are listening, which should translate into many, MANY great pieces for years to come. How many other companies have such a great rappor with their customers??? Yeah, I'll cut 'em some slack on this. I can't wait to see what comes out of it!!!
