Without going off on a CS rant, why won't people buy Cold Steel knives, Vic? I don't own any and I don't understand what the controversy is all about. Over on BF there are huge long rants against Lynn Thompson. Of course, like most of you, I would prefer to buy from Dan, but I don't have to agree with all of Cold Steel's advertizing to enjoy their knives. Most of them have given me good service. I'm with you on that one HornDog. I never cared about the over the top advertising of cold steel however they do make good bang for the buck stuff. they are not the strongest knife as they claim but they are great knives for the price. I have used my recon scout very hard. I don't love the handle but it is my favorite mid sized knife.

I know this knife does not qualify because of its price, but what do you guys think of the Al Mar Sere 2000 Operator? vic, I have an almar sere operator and the quality is great. it is one of, if not the nicest small blade I have. S30V steel.

Did you know that the steel used in Beckers and Carbon V are one and the same?
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

S30V steel. Thank you very much, scrappy. I have owned some Al Mar knives that were better than others. I appreciate the info. I am considering one, but I wasn't sure. They are sort of high end for me (except for my Busse FBM). I like the look and size of the SERE Operator.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Did you know that the steel used in Beckers and Carbon V are one and the same? Interesting! Where did you find this out H-D? There was a guy on the Camillus forum who actually formulated the heat treating for the steel. Sadly, the steel is no longer being made. Camillus made the Carbon V blades for CS, and the 0170-6C Beckers. Those steels are the same.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.
