I was wondering if anyone consistantly carries a big 6" or greater blade. It is easy to carry them out in the woods, but what about in every day life? I don't care what people think, I just need it to be comfortable, and I am very active. The only way I can think might work is with a nice leather sheath with dangler,....but I have other knives with that setup, and getting in and out of trucks and shoveling proves problematic. So I guess my question is....do you carry large knives often, and what is your trick for comfortable carry.
Thanks fellas AI

AI - I carry a large knife every day as I live out in the country and have no concerns about "sheeple". Most of the time I use a dangler style sheath I have made. I also made some straps with a holster clip attached and snap so that I can just run the strap through the sheath's belt loop and clip it on my belt and go. Occasionally I will just run some heavy cord through the sheath and wear it over my shoulder, like a shoulder holstered pistol. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I carry a 6" blade everyday; my SJ. I actually prefer a higher carry than a dangler. I like the handle to ride up my side; it keeps the knife up further, and it keeps it tight against my body. FOr woods carry, I like the drop leg style more. Here is my setup: ![[Linked Image from i658.photobucket.com]](http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu306/P-easy/Picture19512.jpg)

For EDC in the city, Houston, I really feel obligated to follow the 5.5" limit for non-outdoors activity carry. Even then I rarely carry a fixed bladed knife as if I ever was arrested I just do not want to have to explain by I am carrying a large fixed knife. Even an s5 is going to look huge to many people around here. The connotation of large can vary greatly with what judge, jury, and police officers you deal with.
Its funny that I think people would be more accepting of someone accidentally hopefully, revealing their CCW pistol then wearing a fixed blade of any length greater than 3.5" or so.

If you mean true EDC, that would only be folders for me. I only carry a big knife if I am going into a place where I am likely to need one.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Toast, hello fellow Texan!
Agent Iron, there's a 5.5 limit for me as well but as a general rule, a folder is quite enough.
Inside each knife is a new adventure waiting to be had...maybe some blood and probably some suture.

Yehay Devil_505, are you enjoying the weather? My arthritis is killing me but it is so worth not having the heat and humidity. This is the time of year I enjoy living in/around Houston.

My EDCs generally top off at 5.5" and they are usually in the cross draw position although I can say that i will NEVER use any of the squared off, clip style belt locks on a sheath again (not to pick on any company directly). They cut into your side when sitting or squatting. My cross draws all have a heavy nylon or sometimes poly 2" wide strapping around them attached with rivets to the sheath, wrapped around the back and around the belt, back across the front and they close via 2 heavy duty snaps. Very comfy and never cuts in.

I only EDC a folder. It would attract a lot of unnecessary attention if I carried something larger like a SOD in a metro area.
I always have my Scrapper 5 CG in my car though.
