EDC for me is also a medium folder. In my socialist State of MA (where Freedom started and ended), anthing larger than 2 inches is VERY SCARY to most people. Fixed blade EDC - not a chance here. In the woods, sure, but I prefer 5-6 inches.
Was doing some chopping with a dogfather at a Scout campout the other week. One of the smaller kids asked with wide eyes "Is THAT a machete???" "Hey look! He has a machete!" "Why are you using a machete???".
They don't see too many real knives in these parts. Baahhhh... baahhhh I got the same reaction / question from a 40 year old guy but I was hauling around the Regulator at the time. Yeah bud, this is my seven + inch machete. Totally blew me away but considering the sheep that live in Virginia it makes sense the more I think of it and TOTALLY EXPLAINS A LOT. Been here almost my whole like and I still don't get these people. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" />

I was wearing my S5 today as I do often, but today a gal I see at a store I frequent said to me "I didn't know you carried a knife". She looked bewildered. My helper told her "all the time". The gal is in her early 50's, very sweet...I just love her, but anyway I replied "does it scare you?" and she, with hesitation said "yes". I respect the woman, but can not understand the gross ignorance. She knows me and trusts me, but she fears an inanimate object. I never have once seen a knife, of it's own power, get up and stab someone. It is wild. Some other guys at another business loved it.
I don't want to intimadate sweet ladies, but at the same time don't want to give up what I love because of ignorance. I hope maybe carrying will provoke more questions so there can be good communication and education.

I've been carrying my CS Voyager x2 quite a bit recently. While it's only a folder, I'm really growing used to the idea of using a 6" blade regularly.
There's a half constructed Tank Buster sheath sitting on a table around here too, once it's finished I plan to carry that as much as possible. (This sheath is something else, I'll post about it when it's done.)

When I bought my Sig P220 many years ago, they were giving away one of the large vaquero grande (?) has a 6 inch recurved serrated blade. Boy does it cut. I have carried it a couple times and was surprised at how easily it did carry. Go figure.

I've never carried a large blade in NYC. For many years it was a Buck folder in its case. Now what I carry depends upon where I'm going and how I get there. Usually it is my Terzuola folder clipped sidedraw to the waistband of my pants. If it's more dress up a Spyderco Delicia. When my arm was in a sling after surgery I did carry a Gossman PSK in the sling when traveling on the subway to physical therapy.
