I'm sure the chances of water migrating into the tang opening of the Res-C handle would be like trying to jam a wet noodle up a tiger's a#@.

If it happens and causes any damage, it's clearly defective and Dan would make it right.

lol! hahaha.... "would be like trying to jam a wet noodle up a tiger's a#@."
havent heard that one before! oh man good stuff

It's not high on my list of things to worry about, that's for sure. It occured to me the other day that everything I own is getting old, like me, but all of it will still be here when I'm gone. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" />

Just smear a little clear sealant around the opening and wipe off any excess !

Black Knight welcome to the Yard!

Friction fit means warm up the res-C and shove it on really hard! It is retained by the friction and the lanyard tube..

Hi, guys!

How is the seal between the handle and the tang on Scrapyards? Is it a friction fit, or is there some kind of epoxy or treatment to act as a seal? Has anyone ever heard of water migration under the handle and/or rust? Is it something to take precautions with, if you have a Scrapyard knife that you get wet at times?

No issues with this; just wondering if it's something to watch. I use a number of my Scrapyards and will wash them with soap/water...they end up getting quite wet. I usually put a blob of grease right at the joint as a precaution; but I can't on the ones I cut food with. So, I was just wondering if anyone else thought about that.

Thanks!

The Dogs are correct. The handle is put on under heavy presure (friction fit) The slot on the Res-C Handle is slightly smaller than the tang, and the blade is designed with radiused curves to ensure a real tight fit. I would never claim that it would keep out all moisture but remember that we also coat the entire blade...tang included to protect the knife. In addition, Resiprene C is a Non-hygroscopic material which means that it will neither "take on" or "emit" fluids.

I hope this helps. You can also check the main website under tech specs to see a cut away of the handle/tang design and fit http://www.scrapyardknives.com/tech.htm

A great question

Thanks
Dan

Hey, thanks so much, guys; you're awesome! This is a great place...I'm a relatively new pup - got in with the S5 and the Ganza Desert Dogfather. Right now, I have a DDR, S5, S5LE, SS4 (sure wished I had seen those when they were on the site! I want a few more, now!), and a TT Regulator. I've got a couple of Mil-overrun Regulators on the way. Awesome knives...I beat the heck out of my TT Reg and DDR on my friend's land...we both really liked them; and my S5 is one of my most carried when I'm out there. (Can't do it where I live or work...I have to go with my one Swamp Warden)(soon to be joined by a few more!). Wonderful knives!

I'm hoping to come to Knob Creek and to Blade, if I can get off work; so I hope to meet some of you guys there!

Have a great week!
