Welcome <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />- you absolutely cannot go wrong with this knife and at this price <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />. If you don't like- simply sell it down the road. One hell of a secondary market for all bussekin steel. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Thanks everybody for the info. It seems like the answers are don't worry about the tip, it won't break and if it does I get a new one; SR101 is great, although not quite as tough as SR77 but holds a better edge; it is a great all-around knife so get one!
I also saw on youtube one of the TT knives and the bigger choil on the newer ones looks good for choking up for some detailed work. Now my only decision is whether to get one with the milled guard or not.

Now my only decision is whether to get one with the milled guard or not. The square choil was a drawback with the TT Reg although you could still choke up for fine work. As for milled guard or not I'll be the first to say Definately get One of each! You cant go wrong at that price.

I think the 7 or so inch blade bowie style knives are probably the best all around wilderness/camping knives. Just long enought for chopping fairly efficently, but can still use them for skinning and gutting etc. Easier to carry than the longer choppers too.
Of the bowies I have and have used I think the regulator wins in most comparisons. I plan on carrying it for most of my backpacking/wilderness/hunting adventures. The only time I would take something else is when I'm planning on being in a very wet environment like multi day kayaking trips. Probably take my stainless SEAL 2000 for that.

Welcome to the Yard. You already got all the answers from everyone else that I would have said, so I will just endorse what they said! Get one before it is too late. Hopefully my Reg and Dereg will be at home waiting on me tonight and my TT will not be lonely anymore.
