Hello all, after literally years of lurking, I decided it was time to make an account, and, my dad ordered 2 De-regulators (and I think a Regulator too, to see which he likes more and then sell the one he doesnt like). This brings me to my first question.

The order was placed less than 1 week ago. How long should I expect it to take before the knives ship?

Before coming to live in Iowa, (been here for about 1 month), I lived in Las Vegas for about 8 years. Las Vegas is hot, hot, HOT. This brings me to my second question. How well does Resiprene-C hold up to high heat? Think 120 degrees, or maybe even more, and for VERY prolonged periods of time. Also, what about freezing temperatures? And any other enviornmental factors I should be concerned about? My dad had a knife a while back, with a handle made out of something "rubbery", and the handle got soft in the heat and started rotating on the tang and bunching up- is this an issue with the De-regs? I saw a picture of the tangs on the De-regs, and I really expected something wider. Do you think the tangs are wide enough to prevent rotational movement of the handles?

How good is the choil on the De-regs? How efficient is the grind, for cutting? Seems a little to thick, but IDK- any help would be appreciated. The lanyard pin, does it serve to keep the handle attached to the res-c?

Does the tip look like it could snap?

Are there any good sheath makers who are making reg/de-reg sheaths around?

And finally, I plan to use this knife for bushcraft- what bushcraft tasks do you think this knife can accomplish (and how well?)

Thanks in advance,

Chris

(PS: I am trying to find as much info on SR-101 as I can... any help here would be greatly appreciated.)

Welcome to the Yard! Your knives should come fairly quickly, my understanding is they are already made and shipping till they run out. Don't worry about the Res-C handles, they'll be just fine. Also, plenty of sheathmakers around, but the factory sheath is pretty good too.

The reg is thick and not the best slicer but a good convex sharpening can fix that. The stick tang thickness was a surprise to me too, I would like it to be thicker but it could be stronger than we both think. IDK

Its a excellent knife and you will be VERY happy but bushcraft was not the main design with this one. I think you can tell just by its looks what its good at

Mine's holding up to temps just fine here in Austin. My DMCG (w/ old school res-c handle) has truck duty and sits in my cruiser all day in the 103+ temps. That's ambient temp, not internal truck temperature. I haven't seen any complications or signs of deterioration this summer...but I've only had the knife this year, so I'll report back next year also

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to the yard.
Here's where I took mine out for a little workout.

That'll give you some idea of what they can do bushcraft wise.
Don't worry about the tip breaking unless you're trying to break into a bank vault.
Res-c is soft enough that you don't want to beat on it & it will melt under extreme heat like that from fire but the suns heat won't bother it.
The handles are friction fit & the lanyard tube does hold the handle onto the tang.
I haven't had or heard of the handle rotating on the tang so fagetaboutit.
Just remember the steel is for beating on & the res-c is for holding onto the steel.

Enjoy the Regs.

Just my humble opinion but the Regualtor is probably as least like a Bushcraft knife as you can get.
If you want a Busse-Kin blade for Bushcraft I'd look at the Scrapper 4 and 5, Howling Rat and the Ratmandu.

Hello there and welcome to the Yard. The Regulator may not be the best bushcraft blade but it is a lot better than others. I would echo what Pitman says about finding a SS4, S5, RMD, or HRLM as a true bush blade. Saying that, carry a multi tool in the Regulators sheath and you will have all bases covered from small to large along with a set of pliers.

And for poking holes in a-little-too-friendly wildlife, hehe.
