I agree. I don't "polish" my edges. Most of the time I just use a course diamond and a ceramic hone and leave it at that. IF I want something smoother all I will use is a fine diamond hone. This combo works for the stuff I normally cut.

They are comfortable. I wore one for a week straight during an extra dusty time in the desert. I always have it around my neck when in potential dust storm territory.
I guess thousands of years in the desert a civilization will come up with a way to keep the sand out of their holes without giving up comfort even if they still can't figure out how to come up with a civilization.
I'm confused after writing that.

I use the same method as Skunk. I think carving wood needs a more polished edge, but slicing rope, flesh are anything really is much better with a less polished (micro-serrations)edge.

My slipjoint I keep a fairly polished edge on, for such as peeling apples and stuff like that. My carry knives are all sharpened on my Sharpmaker with the coarse stone, and sometimes hit a time or two on the fine stone. I can get a shaving edge with the coarse stone, which is usually good enough for me.

I think you posted about that earlier this week or late last. Oh hey, random thought. Have you or are you getting, that you know of, The Walking Dead show?

Sometimes I get bored and polish an edge with the fine and extra-fine stones, but that doesn't happen often. Plus it seems like the edge doesnt' last as long. Maybe it's just my sharpening though

I set my DVR to record it tonight at 10pm. Didn't get to watch it Sunday, so I'll catch up sometime Saturday and see if I wanna keep up with it.

I used the Ratchute to whittle the other day and it got slightly dull after a lot of cutting. It got a burr edge with very few strokes of a ceramic rod. It is really weird. It sharpens like a soft steel and holds an edge like a hard steel.
Had to fix spelling
