First time poster here. I just bought my first Scrapyard knife, and I can't wait for it to arrive so I can abuse it. I just had a question about the edge that maybe some of you who already own a Scrapper 6 could answer. I am not good at sharpening free hand - I use a Spyderco sharpmaker to sharpen all my knives. I know, it's not very versatile, but I can get my knives scary sharp on a sharpmaker, while freehand I am lucky to be able to slice computer paper. I was just wondering if the S6 edge is ground acute enough to use on my sharpmaker at 30 degrees or even 40 degrees. If anyone can help me out here, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Welcome Corallis, you should have no problem sharpening. I have both (S6 and sharpmaker). When I got my S6 it was hair slicing sharp but the angle will be no problem if and when I do have too touch it up. Best to strop it after use, not losing any material and always keeping it sharp. Don't let it get dull (not easy to do anyway) and it'll last you a very long time.

That's great to hear. I've had some trouble with a couple of Ranger knives before that would not sharpen on my sharpmaker because the edge was too obtuse, and I've heard the Scrapper 6 is pretty thick as well, so I was a bit worried. As for letting it get too dull, that certainly won't happen. I can't stand a knife that won't shave, so I touch all of my knives up very often. Is it just me, or is there anyone else here who simply CANNOT stand having a dull knife? I feel like I have some sort of knife disorder...

I believe it is 40 degrees, I took a picture of the S6 edge to try and give you a better visual, hope it helps. ![[Linked Image from i13.tinypic.com]](http://i13.tinypic.com/2hqxgrt.jpg)

Hi Corallis, welcome to the yard! The knives are ground freehand so the edges vary quite a bit.. If this is your first yard knife, you won't be disappointed by the toughness! It won't be your last yard knife- that's for sure!!

Welcome to the Yard. I will leave it to the Dogs to answer your question. I have not used the sharpmaker Dumpster Dan

I love my Scrappers but I have found they(and every other knife) usually need some work before I am happy with the edge. I use a Lansky which is a bit different. For my SS4 I made the edge a very thin convex edge that goes from 25 to 20 to 17 degrees. It would be to thin for most knives but infi can handle it. My Mutt came with a 25 degree edge that was very well done and consistent. I think I may reprofile it to 20 but 25 is a decent enough edge for hard use.

I can be kinda obsessive about it sometimes. I want to keep 'em at optimal sharpness and ready for action!
