Beats holding it and slicing the ends of your fingers!

Haha, Yeah, something I know well!

Hey, you can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs. Sliced fingers just goes along with sharpening knives.

I've cut mine more than once, but usually doing something stoopid. Hopefully I've learned my lesson about that.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" />

What's the worse you've ever cut yourself?

I was using a Gerber folder, I it is one of the older ones made with a Zytel (?) handle and a "Button" that you slid backward to unlock the blade. It was the small one.

Anyway, I was using it as an awl to poke some holes in paper, I had a stack of paper about 1/8 inch thick and was sort of rocking the point back and forth and the blade collapsed on my little finger. It DID go all the way to the bone, that is what stopped if from going further through. It did NOT feel good.

I've closed slipjoints on my fingers several times, but thankfully that was before I knew how to sharpen knives. My slipjoint that I carry now would easily go to the bone. It's probably the sharpest knife I own, and that's saying something!

That is why I will NEVER trust another "Bolt lock" again. And I just used the term bolt lock because I don't actually know what it's called.

My Uncle Henry is definately limited to small jobs. Peeling apples, opening the mail, etc. Anything else gets at least a lockblade, if not a fixed blade.

But I've almost always got my Izula in my pocket, so really no need for anything else!
