Once again I made a trade with a fellow dog. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
This time for a Mud Puppy.I had a Muppy already & love it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />,but wanted another to debeak & make it a little handier for edc.I also wanted to expose the tang so I could pound on it if the need should ever arise.Ya never know ya know <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />.Despite shortening the mudder handle it still feels great in the hand which is what I figured would be the case.I didn't think the lanyard hole was as close to the end of the tang as it is though <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />,but not to worry.....

as you can see there was a viod/bubble in the beak area & I was able to grind most of it out.

Muppy with beak...

[Linked Image from i760.photobucket.com]

and with out...

[Linked Image from i760.photobucket.com]

and choking up...

Still plenty of handle for controlled cutting.
So after the debeaking I wanted to see just how tough this Scrap Yard 154CM was & decided to drive the Muppy through a quarter.Plus I wanted to check the feasibility of pounding on the tang.
I did the debeaking & pounding at work because that is where the belt sander & other shop tools are, then came home for the photo shoot. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
Anyho..I thought the Muppy went through the quarter too easy,so decided to really test the Scrap Yard 154CM..I scrounged a piece of scrap 2x2x1/8" steel tube & clamped it in the vice. Then commenced to pound the Muppy in...

Just a couple of little marks on either side.I slid my thumb nail down the blade & there was no deformation of the edge. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />
Then I remember seeing a pic of one of the 154CM
knives slicing a pipe.(a muppy I believe)& had to give it a try..... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

again,no dings found on the edge with the thumb nail, just marks on the sides of the blade...

Just a few more to show the love for the steel...

Now my Muppy is everything the game warden wishes it was, lighter, more stain resistent,a more comfortable handle,a useable choil & just as tough IMO.
It ain't purdy but with a name like Mud Puppy what do you expect!

I look forward to the next 154CM release....
because this stuff is awesome.

And don't worry,I already asked JYD#98 if he wanted this Muppy & told him I was going to mod it if he didn't & he said thanks but no thanks.
I still have #139 for a future JYD if he/she wants it.

Rock on Yard, home of the best [censored] knives on the planet!

And maybe Santa will bring me a new camera for christmas. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

I would be SO scared to do this to one of my knives just to test it. I believe Dans word on the toughness. I ONLY want to test the toughness/warranty in a HAVE TO situation where there is NO other choice.

But it was a good review and Mod Myke.

Man that's some tough stuff!

The 154CM and Mudder handle combo is most def my favorite. I haven't tested them anywhere near like this but it's good to know they will hold up. I'm all for a shortened Mudder handle. I have oftern wondered what a nodded handle would look like and it turned out better than I thought.

Good job! Thanks for posting the pics!

HUMMMMM. Actually with my slightly smaller hand removing the "birds beak" would not have any bearing on where/how the handle contacts my hand on the back side.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> It's ok....little Muppy....it's ok <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

That's MUPPY ABUSE!! I'm calling PETA. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Cool mods. I would have preferred you send it to me, such that it could live a life free of torture, but...it's your knife and I'm glad to see you taking some action with it! I like the idea of the exposed point on the tang...but not sure how often I would actually ever use it on one of my knives.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.
