I just made a couple out of oak last week.
I drilled the holes on a drillpress then shaped them on the beltsander.
The fit isn't real tight & I didn't think about replacing them & put a dab of superglue gel into each one.
I just tried to get them off & have to hold the rod with pliers & really twist & pull to get the handles off,but they did come off without any damage.I'll just add another dab of glue & be good to go.
I've got 5/16 rods so it'll be awhile before I have to replace them, but it's good to know I can.
Thanks for the idea & I hope my info helps.
Here they are with hacksaw blade scrappers I put a patina on with mustard after sanding the paint off.
