I have one the 3a maratec lights and really like mine. But I could just make do with the low and high although the medium is nice at times.

I have an ITP a3eos, I love it. It's with me all the time in my front pocket. I use it more than any light I've ever owned, just because it's small enough to always be with me, yet still has decent light output. 3 modes High, Medium, and low. High is 80 lumen, pretty good for such a small package. This light also is the same as one of the Maratac's, not sure if it's the one you were interested in. You can get them for about $20 at Going Gear, plus you can get 10% off at GG if you get a Candlepower Forum coupon code. Pic of my EDC arsenal including the a3eos.

that itp is a good back up light

but the lumamax2 is the one i reach for instead of taking the itp off my keychain

Nice light collection Vance, I have several that are brighter and better than the itp also. It just gets the most actual use because it is so easy to carry and is always with me. So what are the specs on the lumamax lx2

The Thrunite Neutron 2AA is a good choice. You can set it up so it has a high and low mode like you want - but it has other modes you could cycle through it you wanted to use them. It has a very floody beam which is great for an EDC.

Fenix LD20 or LD 15 or LD 25 are all good.

I have a few high lumen throwers and they are not pleasant to use under 30m (33 yards) due to the intense spot they light up.

candlepowerforums has a lot of good reviews for most lights and are quite helpful in providing beam shots and run times of torches.

Nice Peak Led Vance. Those guys are right down the street from my house. It's tough to find "US made" lights other than Surefire and Elzetta.

I use a Surefire C2 with a Malkoff M61 drop-in or a RA 170 by HDS. Since I can use RCR123's (rechargeable CR123's) in the RA light, it tends to get quite a bit of use. These lights are in the $150+ range.

For smaller lights, I use a Peak El Capitan which can take any AA including L-ion rechargeables which bump up the output significantly. Peak LED solutions is down the street from house and makes their product in the US, so I support them. Peak has a slew of lights. You can get them from overready.com or http://www.em-mgt.com/LED/Peak.html.

I do have two Fenix lights, an E01 and E05. I am a big fan of the E05 for about $20. The E01 is tough, but the purple tint from the 5mm LED leaves something to be desired. These are AAA lights mainly for walking around at night or letting my kids use.

I also have the Photon like lights from Countycomm that are pretty handy.

My experience is limited........ but for what it's worth I have/edc a Surefire Aviator A2 and really like it. It does fit your request for a high and low setting but unfortunately uses the CR123A batteries. Mine is the older model with 3x led's in low and those plus 1x halogen bulb in high. The new models specs are:
Max Output 120 .0 lumens
Low Output / Runtime 10 .0 lumens / 15 hours
Tactical Runtime* 2 .0 hours
Length 5 .40 inches
Bezel Diameter 1 .13 inches
Weight w/Batteries 4 .3 ounces
Batteries 2
123A
The low setting is awesome since it doesn't blind you or super-spotlight what you're doing at night. I have G2's mounted on all of my rifles but they sure burn fast (120 lumens for 2 "tactical"? hours). That Lumamax looks like a good buy.
Godspeed

I started looking at the Fenix TK50 the otherday. Blistering turbo, 120 lumens on high for 10 hours and I THINK 4 lumens runs for 480 HOURS! It's a 2D cell light and would be possibly a good choice for "outages" or other bumps in the night among other good outdoors/emergency uses. Still checking it out, supposed to have a Loooooong throw but I don't know how much spill light it lets out. Some spill is a good thing.
