Yup, I agree with MB and JJ. We've had penny for going on 14 years. She IS our baby girl. Yes, I have put myself in jeopardy twice to protect her from MUCH larger dogs. Fortunately no animal was hurt (not even me).

Myself and your pet drowning and only one of us you can rescued, I guess I'm already dead since you consider me equal to or below your pet. your family members come first.
Am I missing something here? Is this how you would want me to react with your wife, children, mother or father?

Fortunately no animal was hurt (not even me). Sorry but not the same as putting your life on the line. Yes I have picked up my dog during a walk to protect her from a much much bigger aggressive dog. I had no where to run, I had no time to do anything but pick up my dog

44 Fred, I think you misunderstand. I AM NOT picking our pet over a human. I was basing MY thoughts on my wife and I and our pet Vs the scumbags. In a survival situation I do not consider those who intend to prey on the helpless/less able bodied as themselves to be human.

SH I'm glad you said that. I was really beginning to worry. When people I don't personally know use terms like family and will do what it takes etc. I must take them for their word and not what I think they mean. I have spoken to plenty of animal rights nuts that really put humans in the same or lower category as animals.

Animal rights nuts, YUP. Now DO believe animals need to be treated humanely, but THOSE folks, take it to the extreme.

Thanks for posting that. My brother in law gave CPR to his little dog while I drove them to the Vet. The dog looked dead! No breath, heartbeat, blue tongue etc. He kept him alive for almost 20 minutes, I couldn't believe it.

Where I come from "I'd do whatever it takes to protect them" never would pertain to your pets. Other humans yes, pets never. I hope you mean within reason not knowingly putting your life on the line or taking another life. I was raised where animals are alot like guns. Cherished and respected but both tools. If you would possibly shoot someone for stealing something I do not see why that something could not be your dog.

I do not believe humans are superior to dogs. Humans are smarter, but that in no way makes them better creatures. It makes us worse in many circumstances.
I hear you! Most Americans wouldn't eat a dog. But we love our burgers. See where I am going? If humans are not superior to dogs, then dogs are not superior to cows. Lol, would you eat a human?

Imagine, do we get hot sauce? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
But I do agree. We see NOTHING wrong with eating Beef and Pork, whereas a large population of the world considers is sacrilege to do so. Who's right, who's wrong. Different cultures, different upbringing. I HAVE eaten dog, cat, snake, some bugs and supposedly monkey although I have my doubts about that. It's just food. Only our cultural differences make us see it as not so. Oh and I have also eaten mice and I forgot snails, NOT escargot, but ordinary garden snails.
