.22's are great. Ammo is cheap, light and abundant. Another BOB type compact rifle is the KelTec line of rifles. They make them in .22, 9mm, .40, and .223. Here is a pic of the sub-2000. It folds to 16x7, so it would fit nicely in a backpack, and weighs only 4 lbs. It uses Glock magazines. The polymer sights concern me a bit as far as durability goes... but for an 'emergency/BOB' type gun it may fit the bill. ![[Linked Image from keltecweapons.com]](http://www.keltecweapons.com/uploaded_files/ourguns/gallery/b_0a2383ebe2c7f4d01af24df042e1a6c3sub2000_folded_left_6407hires.jpg) .

My question is WHY does the Gubberment think they have the right to curtail our ability to be armed.

^^^^^ Maybe it's a reading comprehension problem. The Second Amendment couldn't be more clear. Heller was a big step. But the Second Amendment remains the ONLY Amendment in the Bill of Rights not to be incorporated. Why?

I have a sub2000 in .40 myself. nice firearm for the price. been reliable and there's a few aftermarket options to make it a nicer option. I have upgraded front sight parts with aluminum adjustment screws and upgraded plastic for the front sight post. maybe not the rifle I would rely on for all out battle but I wouldn't hesitate to grab mine for what it was meant for. at under $350 it's a good buy in my book..

The Henry AR-7 have many problems, not like the old Armalites. Before you buy, read up on them. A friend had one and it was the biggest POS. The Marlin Papoose is nice and can have a floating case. But for me and if I was wanting a take-down semi I would go with Ruger's new TD.
As to lazi's Kel-Tec, they fit in a back pack great. Wish I still had my 9mm one but since I don't have a Glock any longer I did not see any reason to keep it.

I was not going to buy the AR-7, but it is a pretty cool concept that it all fits in the buttstock.
I did look at the sub2k in .40, but they are hard to come by like most of KelTec's more exotic offerings and honestly I just hear one horror story after another about that company

One KelTec I might not be able to pass up is the KSG if they actually manage to make enough for it to be available to the general public at MSRP or lower and solve a few of its problems (like how easy it is to tear chunks out of the bottom rail.)

I always wanted an AR-7 but never got one. Though not cheap, or even legal for some, a long barrel pistol works for me best. I still have a Buckmark Silhouette (.22, 10") with optics and a S&W 686 (.357, 8.5") with optics that I carry.
Reliable and accurate enough to give me rifle accuracy out to about 50 yds.

I've had at least two of these. The first was an original (back in the late 1980's). They never functioned particularly well, and accuracy was poor. The stock's buttplate can crack if you leave it in the heat (it turns brittle over time).
Agree with JJ...

Ruger's new "take down" 10/22 looks appealing as does a traditional "youth" 10/22 (16" barrel) with a Butler Creek folding stock.

I owned a Ruger Mk2 Competition Target Model (commonly referred to as a "Slab Side" due to its slab sided 6-7/8" barrel) that was remarkably accurate. I would not hesitate to use one of these (especially if equipped with a Leupold handgun scope) to take small game. However, at 42oz it wasn't "lightweight" . I do regret selling that one!

A friend of mine just bought the AR-7, and it's a pretty cool gun. Lots of storage, and it's watertight and therefore floats. The front sight is cheap orange plastic which slides from side to side - I'm not sure what the purpose of that is. His is a little picky with ammo, too.
I think the Ruger takedown 10/22 would probably be more reliable, and it doesn't take up much more space than the AR-7.

If you want/need watertight, go with the AR-7. If not, I would go with the Ruger.
