Ok, stepping up in size/power.
The 38spl/357mag is a good concept, and actually pretty smart only needing one caliber for supply/resupply.
WHERE, in what kind of environment do you live. Apartment, condo, house? How close are your neighbors? How heavily populated is the area where you live. IF THE handgun/rifle is for personal defense, you MIGHT want to rethink stoking them with the Magnum round. OVER PENETRATION! That is a very valid consideration. Ideally get yourself a Taurus Judge (45 colt and .410 shotgun round out of the same weapon). The 45 is nothing to sneeze at for hunting or self defense. The .410 is a good home defense round in a place with thin walls where you need to think about over penetration. I live in a condo...suburbia usa...shoot me. I wish I was somewhwere where my back door opened up into the woods.

In my book, nothing wrong with the 38/357. I also like the concept of one (ok 2) calibers in a handgun/rifle combo. Just be aware of the over penetration aspect. That is all I was trying to get across. You might be able to get by with shooting an intruder, but what your neighbors 7 year old playing in his bedroom in the apartment next door when your bullet either missed your target or went through him and into the room next door.

And as for uses... to be honest, Im not looking for any kind of self defense. That and If I brought a gun into the house with our 3yo it would start ww3.
My plan atm is to get the .22Lr
My wife has told me that back when she was younger and single she loved to go shooting. My first step is to get her back to the range to re-kindle things.
Then ill take it from there.
That and my neighborhood so far knock on wood has been nice. Im not being naive and know anything can happen anywhere.
But I have good spidey sense and the whole place is a huge condo community. Lights everywhere and 95 percent of the population is 65 plus. Im not fearing any old timers and young guys walkin around at night arouse suspision.

I bought myself a bolt action marlin with a tube magazine. It'll shoot 22lr,22 long, and 22 short. I've been very happy with it. Stainless and synthetic too! Yeah the the 39a golden I was talking about does as well. The difference is that this one is a bolt action, the only one currently available with a tube magazine.

All my 22's have been the tubular magazine type. Nothing wrong with them and I like the large magazine capacity. BUT the box or removable magazine type might be a better consideration. For one thing, you could have a magazine loaded SEPARATE from the weapon and just slap the two together, rack the bolt and go bang!

Box mags can be lost, then you're stuck with a single shot.
