Except for the obvious handle design/material and slightly different blade, why would I not pick up the Rodent 4? At least I can buy one now instead of waiting for who knows how long. Just keepin' it all in the same family.

If you bought an R4 directly from the swamp you'd still be waiting for a few weeks.
The blades are really almost identical, and mudders offer a big difference in weight.

I guess I can wait a little longer, maybe. When I gifted my 411 I didn't think I would miss it that much. WRONG!!!

I've never had a 411, but did have a Scrapper 5 which is close. That being said, I did have a Rodent 4 for a short spell (days).
I really like the mudder grips, but the R4 also had a great handle IMO. The 411 will be a bit lighter due to handle construction.
All in all, I don't see how you can justify the extra $30 bucks for the R4. If they both cost the same, it would be a much harder decision but the Scrap Yard Price to Performance ratio reigns supreme.

I completely agree you. I do love the mudder handles too.

Most folks consider micarta handles to be superior to "rubber" ones. It matters more to me on big choppers, but the the steel is the same. The molded handles keep the costs lower, and work just fine. My new "Yard Knife" is the 1311. I have other SY, SW, and Busse choppers, but none tops my 1311 in performance. The bottom line is, get the best you can afford.
BTW: I love mudder handles.

I like the mudders! But I think the choil is to big for the knife.

Elof Thanks for the side by side picture. I know that muddier handle is more comfortable.

Fred, No problem. I ordered Rodents 4 & 6 with another member here, Magoo, (international postage is $55) and they were delivered to his place. When I went to pick them up, mine were still wrapped, I took Magoo's R4 and just could not put it down! It was that comfortable. If I wasn't picking up mine at the time, we'd probably stop being friends 'cos I'd go home with his... Just a perfect fit for my hand. R5 has the same style handle just a bit bigger, but unfortunately it has flat slabs, R4 has greatly contoured handle!
