Well at least that's better than burying them in the ground!

Drove from the arctic to eastern Canada with a Dog Father under the driver's seat. Darn useful tool to have! Second only to the jerry cans of fuel given the unreliable state of gas stations in some areas... About 4400 miles of wheeling, give or take

Before my assignment got cancelled I was going to drive from Idaho (about 50 miles Southeast of Boise) to Anchorage. If memory serves, I think that Alcan is what, 2200 miles all by it's lonesome.

They used to suggest taking an extra set of tires along with emergency gear in case you broke down; help wasn't always just a few minutes away. The road was THAT bad.

Oh yeah, there was a book called I THINK the Milepost. Gave a breakdown of all the services, or lack thereof, along the entire length of the road. I actually bought one and man it was almost scary. But as I said my follow on assignment from Idaho to Anchorage got cancelled. But the book was still very interesting reading.

I bought a copy of the Milepost when I was planning on our Alaskan visit in 1990. It IS interesting reading with a lot of good information. Oh, we FLEW from Chicago to Anchorage where we were met by the General's uncle.
