I'm liking the sounds of this, Dan. It allows us to put in our request, and time to gather the funds to pay it off. Very nice! Wait a sec..... this means I'm gonna be spending more money on SYK knives! Ohhhhhh, very tricky! Oh well, at least I'll be broke AND happy!

So when do you start taking orders for the S7 or whatever is next? You know Jerry is putting HIS popular 7" blade SFNO up soon. I hope you have a bigger Scrapper in 154cm in the works. That steel takes and holds a sharp edge like nothing else I have seen. Just took me a while to get used to sharpening it. But I haven't had to touch it up yet since I got the edge on it. It just cuts and cuts.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Good plan.

So, a 2-3 year rotation... really? So maybe I can buy another DFLE in 2010 or 2011?

Thanks for the update Dan! This sounds like a good plan, no more stopping everything in my life to constantly check the store. I presume you are doing this because it was successful for swamp rat's HCLE.

I hope you start the rotation off with the all mighty DFCG!

..... what is not changing:

1. The forum will remain as is and continue to be a family oriented place to talk steel, knives, and associated subjects. The Brotherhood of the Yard continues to grow with many new Dogs joining on a regular basis. The friendly atmosphere of the Yard ensures that they will not be attacked for asking any question or sharing their thoughts.

2. The delivery of the highest quality knife at the lowest possible price will continue.

3. Dumpster Diving is in my blood and I will continue to bring different steels and associated parts to the table.

4. The customer focused approach will continue to be the highest priority.

What will change:

1. The way we offer knives. Instead of posting that knives are available and taking orders until the inventory is depleted, we will now take orders on 1 or 2 models for approx. 4-6 weeks (depending on the model) and will then discontinue that offer. NO additional orders will be accepted until those models come back around in the model rotation. It could be 2 to 3 years before those models are made available again. This approach allows the customer a better chance of getting in on a model offering while allowing us to batch process or group build knives. This, in turn, assists us in keeping a lower cost of production, while ensuring high quality bladeware and the high performance that has become the hallmark of Scrap Yard Knives.

2. Customer satisfaction should increase over the very high ratings we get today and more people will get to share in owning the standard in high performance to price ratio knives.

As always, I continue my thanks to the Yard for the feedback and input that has not only made us very successful in 2 short years, but also for helping us formulate our "go forward" approach

Dan

"ALL" good plans in my book.

I REALLY like the part about:

1-2 models for 4-6 weeks to order is AWESOME. That is so much easier and less stressful way to be able to buy knives. I LOVE hearing that!!!!

The "Possibility" of previous models being made available after 2-3 years from time to time is also AWESOME. I would love to see that with Busse and Swamp Rat as well. Although, some Busse's are coming back. I have seen the SJTAC resurected, the ASH was a bring back of sorts, the SFNO would be a popular bring back, etc.

To me, this helps take the jack-up profiteering out of the secondary market and helps Busse, Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard fans be able to enjoy knives from the factory more often. There will still be a secondary market. But, if production can meet demand, Busse will be the benificiary of profits and sales and Busse, Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard fans will be able to buy at "easier" will from Busse making it much easier on buyers. I am not interested in investers who purchase tons of blades to resale at jacked-up prices. I never bought their jacked up prices anyway. I have purchased from the occasional person who offered a reasonable price on the secondary market if I missed something though. And sometimes some people just need to sell for various reasons that I can except (not including jack-up investors). I think this all works out for the best for the most.

.

I guess I'm a bit different than most in that I like the "instant gratification" of receiving what I order in the same week I make payment. I have difficulty committing to waiting for weeks, even months, between placing an order and receiving it. That's why I often accept the more limited options offered in the Busse Company Store in favor of placing orders on the Busse Combat site.

That being said, I also recognize the business advantages of knowing how many units to make at the front of a production run instead of guessing when the pile is tall enough to release. Hopefully, there may still be some dog bowl action on military overruns for an occasional steel-on-demand fix. It'll be interesting to see if comments about the good old days of cash and carry orders are made while people wait for their knives.

I agree, the waiting 4-6 weeks is going to hurt, maybe they can work out some sort of plan where the first group or so who ordered could get their steel earlier.

From reading the plan, models will be in the store for that long, but I don't think they'll be ready to ship at the end of that period. I expect delivery schedules will depend a lot on civilian and military order volume, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't additional time between runs so that production can catch up with demand before the next cycle.

this is great news to me.the busse brothers are just the best man.

this pretty much sounds like the same way busse combat sells their knives.put a model up and take orders until they feel the time is up on that model and start shipping them out in batches.if you where one of the earlier orders you will be in the first batch just like busse combat.

i'm excited.i will miss ordering a knife and having it on my doorstep 1 week later.it looks like that BDLE was the last of SYKC instant gratification/SR77 quick fix.oh well,it'll be worth it.

and while this will make things much better and less stressful for the pack and ensure no one goes to bed hungry i also hope this makes things better, easier and less stressful for all you guys in the shop and who are a part of the company from the top to the bottom.

you guys bring us the best cutlery, you stand behind it and take care of us every single time,no questions asked,no exceptions.dan is the only person from the scrapyard shop i've met and he is a great guy and fun to be around so i hope this allows him a few extra bourbon breaks.

with all that said..........WHAT IS UP FOR GRABS NEXT GOOD SIR???????
