For those concerned about not getting "INSTANT" gratification. Keep in mind "Instant" is a VERY relative term around here.

But, nevertheless, there is a very "obvious" solution.

Dan could still have Dog Bowls by having a given quantity on hand at the time of announcement/release, "THEN" everyone else who missed out or is willing to wait can still order through the system.

If Dan doesn't announce a knife till he has a small load of them on hand, nobody around here would no better anyway. Since wait times are random and months at a time, what is the difference as far as we know?

This way, some of those who might wet themselves, can't wait more than "Two weeks" after seeing a new knife posted or might just generally bonk after doing the Snoopy Dance too long might still be able to get get some "Instant" gratification..... and show off to those of us more patient dogs willing to wait if needed.

"AND" nobody will really miss out if missing the Dog Bowl as they can still order through the system if the missed out on the "First to the Bowl" releases.

Quick Dogs can still get their meals fast and then relax happy and "ALL" dogs can still get fed and be happy.

Everybody can be happy.

Sounds like a good idea.

My question is how are you going to meet the demand?

In the past runs have sold out in just minutes, over the period of a month you may sell thousands of blades. Are you going to cut off orders when you reach a certain number? If not and you take orders for say 4 weeks and have a very large order will the next release be pushed off while you finish the current blades?

Not all of us make a killing on the secondary market. Some of us just hoard them like dwarven gold in preparation for the collapse of civilization or when the zombies come a callin. Seriously though, except for the last DCDM sale, releases have always been announced days ahead of time. Thus far, I've never missed getting my order in; I've made it a priority to be at my computer, with an email ready to send, waiting for the GO post. Barring power outages, if you're more than a minute late, then your priorities were elsewhere. I'm not judging you or anybody else who misses a release, but I'm a bit irritated that so many judge me harshly for buying more than one or two blades.

With a tear in my eye I sit here playing Taps for my F5 button. RIP my friend, you've worked hard and done your job well .

Although I will miss the fun of the Dog Bowls I do like the new business plan Dan. In fact, if I could, I would e-mail a bottle of this Gold wax Makers Mark I have setting on my mini bar .

Comrads of the Yard, there is only one way to make this fair. It should be needs based. Every potential buyer will be required to fill out an official SYKCO form stating the following information:

1. Your name.
2. Number of knife users in your household.
3. Annual income (this is for price determination).
4. Quantity and model of each SY knife you own. Similar Busse-made models must also be included.
5. Legitimate activities you engage in that require a knife and the type of knife most suitable for that activity as determined by the SYKCO knife use and design board.

Prices will be adusted on a sliding scale based on income. Excess knives must be returned to SYKCO for redistribution based on need. Excesses will be determined by the needs committee. You may qualify for an "earned knife income bonus" which will take the excess knives returned and deliver them to you free of charge.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Jim,

How did that comment apply to you? If that comment doesn't apply to you, why are you being defensive about it?

What I don't understand Jim is why you would have a problem with others being able to get the knives with this new system.

If all you are doing is hording, this system still allows you to hord and buy all you want and nobody should have any reason to complain with Dan's new system.

This system should be good enough for all except investors and better for most except for investors.

With Dan's plan, "Horders" can buy as many as they want without preventing others from opportunity. So, hord all you want and be happy.

But, in the past, with Dog Bowls and limited quantities, whether you sell them for profit or hord many multiples, if there is only a set number of knives available, you have played a part in depriving other fellow Dogs (who we call friends - except at trample time! ) from getting knives they wanted because you hord. Or as you imply: others who might sell for profit.

I can appreciate multiple knives being purchased for many various reasons. I have purchased 2 on multiple occassions and even 3 once. But, I didn't purchase the extras to screw my fellow dogs. I bought to have an extra that I thought I might want. I can further understand some people might buy even more as gifts for family or friends as ligitimate and fair reasons for buying multiples.
But, for anyone wanting multiples as spares or for friends and family, how are they hurt by Dan's new system of taking orders? They can all still get what they want with out taking AWAY from other fellow dogs.

You might not have anything else in life to do at go times. But, many people have to work odd hours or have many other relevent, fair and important obligations in life. Or live in other parts of the world where a good time for a bowl here is a very poor time for a Dog Bowl there.

With Dan's plan to sell by taking orders, it sounds to me like most everybody within a fair and reasonable time should have an opportunity to place their orders.

If you are just wanting to buy "Hords" for yourself, why would you have ANY problems with others being able to have a reasonable and fair chance to purchase knives they want?

If investors want to buy in large quantites when everyone else has a fair and reasonable time and chance to buy, then try to sell later, fine. More power to them.

But, for those who are buying in quantity to resale and jack-up prices at a later date "AND" depriving other fellow dogs from reasonable opportunities to buy at short run/short availibility bowls, screw them..... whoever they are.

I mentioned at the bottom of page two how there could be a happy combination of still having some "Fun" and "Instant Graticification" Dog Bowls and still allow others to place orders and not miss out. Seems very feasible to me.

I promise you that investors will still be able to make big money on the secondary market. The reason is because of the 2-3 year rotation deal. If for whatever reason you didn't know about SYKCO at the time of a release you wanted, and you do not want to wait 2-3 years for the knife to "maybe" be released again, your only option is to buy off of the secondary market.

Also, as I read Dan's post, he didn't guarantee that all models would be re-offered. So, if that is the case and someone has several knives stashed away that are no longer going to be made, guess what,$$$$$$$$$.

While I think very little of our fellow dogs and Busse-kin brothers who buy multiples just so they can gouge their fellow "friends", I don't think this plan will hurt their greedy ways in the long run.
