When I want to hold a Bark I grab one of my Scrap Yard Knives...and let that Dog Bark as much as he wants!

I like the looks of a Barkie and they are priced well enough but I am certain that I can count on a Scrap Yard Knife in any situation without thought of failure or sore hands.

Long live Res-C

Getting back to the topic. I think the real decision has to include the like or dislike of large choils. I am sitting here checking out my SC6LE, SJTAK, SFNO, CHOPWEILLER, RD7, and my new Bravo-2. The cutting edge on the Bravo-2 (no choil) is the same as the RD7 and about a half inch longer than the chopweiler (and much sharper). It is not sharper than my new SJTAK or SFNO from Blade WEST. They are the two sharpest BUSSE knives I own, with the RMD close.
I do not think of the Bravo-2 as a chopper. Sitting next to the above group are my RAT Mastif, CGDF, RD9, and BRKT Golok (choppers). However, if I want to chop something I use my Fiskars Hatchet (or GB Wildlife). However, I chop very little any more. I do baton a lot and all of these knives do that fairly well.

Bottom line. For me the only decision to make is TAN SOD or SOD LE?

good lord,i just spent 2 hours reading up on things,whoo!!!...thats a lot of info for one intoxicated brain.i do find it all very interesting but will keep my thoughts to myself and let my wallet do the talking,or not, oops.

i liked the look of the bravo 2 as soon as i saw it but its lack of chopping capabilities makes it not that good of a camp knife for my needs.i personally dont need 7 inches of knife if it wont chop and thats because i camp a lot.

the finish on barkies is really great and especially for the money.they have that fine, classy, refined finish you usually cant get unless its in an expensive custom pieces that was hard to even find in the first place.

scrapyard finishes are like everything else regarding them,to the point,no b.s.
looking forward to hell, ready for war, looking for abuse and ready for more.

a barkie will spank a scrapyard out of the box concerning edge and cutting/slicing with that refined convex edge but nothing can mess with a scrapper when it comes to 3:00AM-ANBAR PROVINCE-SUSPECTED HIGH LEVEL TANGO HIDE OUT-RAID and you know you can count on your scrapyard knife to do ANYTHING you ask of it,even if you ask it to pull crowbar, entry tool, haligan tool duty, you name it.

hell,it'll even stop a .45 if need be.so what does that mean??....rig your scrapyard knife kydex MOLLE rig sheath on you MOLLE vest right in front of your heart.

so what a scrapyard cant keep as good of an edge.thats not why you carry a scrapyard knife and thats not why they make'em .250-.285 !!!! thick and out of jack hammer bit steel.you wanna slice something get a mora.you wanna take a SWAT TEAM raid van or up-armored HUM-V into hell than take some SR77.

is that what we do with our scrapyaed knives,no.but it makes us feel cool.

MS was real quick to flaunt the fact that the recon boys liked his knife and he even named it after them and that IS a testament to his quality cutlery and its cool to name it after them......also helps sales too......but i wonder how many busse kin knives have made it into SF hands one way or another or have been the chose of SF boys??.....oh yeah, thats right, the busse boys keep that to themselves.TOP SECRET

all in all i chose the SOD.i do own a bravo 1 and micro canadian 2 and love them and have given the BRAVO 1 a very rough time.i got drunk last night and started stabbing it into 3/32 inch steel as hard as i could last night tip first and it did superb.

i'm rambling.

If it would be to choose between the smaller Bravo-1 and a Dumpster Mutt, I would choose the Bravo because I don't like the SR-77 on medium-small blades (this is also the reason I don't have a ScrapYard knife yet - because I don't use large blades at this moment).

But between Bravo-2 and SOD my choice would be surely the SOD! SR-77 is suited exactly for this kind of (large) knives. Its design a bit hunchbacked, with a bit wider blade should make it one of the best choppers available and very comfortable for simple cutting. Bravo 2 has a too straight design so that it's not optimized for chopping, even it might be very good for that if the weight is well distributed; but it's not optimized in that regards. I consider chopping maybe the most common use of such a large blade.

Fortunately, I did not have to choose. There is no way I would not get a SOD. I don't buy knives based on things one or two people say against them on forums. If they make a product I like and back their warranty, that works for me. As long as a dealer or maker is honorable in his dealings with me, I will do busniness with him. I am reminded of all the bashing over on BF about Lynn Thompson and Cold Steel. I don't even know him, but I have quite a few Cold Steels, and most of them have served me well. I don't know most of the makers I have bought from. I have met Dan and Jerry Busse. I buy their knives and I trust their integrity. So far, I have no reason not to. I have been very pleased with most of their models, and I know from experience that they stand by their products. That is good enough for me. If somebody goes on a rant bashing them for some reason, it won't keep me from buying a model they make, if I like it.

I voted for the SOD for one main reason - RES-C rocks.

The SOD all the way.

As far as that other stuff. I may be out of line as I am a newbie here, but, I'm going to say it anyway.

This is a ScrapYard sponsored site, right? So maybe we should limit the badmouthing, deserved or not, of another knifemaker. Some could perceive it as bad form and as if it is sanctioned by the Yard. Whether you agree with one side or the other, nothing will ever get resolved on the web. It will only result in more bad feelings by someone about someone else.

I'm thick skinned, so if I'm wrong or out of line, just tell me.

I don't think we should "badmouth" anyone, any company, or any forum either Reynolds.

...
I think it says so in the rules actually.
I didn't see a whole lot of "badmouthing" here... some opinions were stated though.
