I can see a where DF might be better in S7, but a Scrapper 5 should be fine in 154CM. Besides, I don't normally put my blades in a vice and bend them with a cheater bar. I have put the MPLE and SMLE through as rough a test as I would with any knives that size, and they have come through just fine. As wet as it is in BC, I would have thought that a stainless scrapper 5 would have appeal to pitman, but I guess not. Am I the only one here who still sees 154CM as a premium knife steel? I agree Vic.. I already have a 5" prybar in the DMDC.. Let's see some 154CM! or INFI(I wish!)

I guess my love of carbon steels comes from my 17 years working at the coal mine, part of my time there was blacksmithing and all our tools were high carbon steel, some maybe 50 years old and still going strong !

I'm just not into stainless steels Vic,no matter what anyone says they are more brittle than the equivalent high carbon steel ( lets see a dogfather made of 154CM bent in a vice like the famous pic ) I also like to see my knives get a nice aged look to them through use! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> I can appreciate the aged look, ... But, do you really intend to use this S5 like you would a DogFather? Do you really expect a 5 inch blade to need the toughness of a 10 inch chopper? If you are needing a smaller pry-bar, Scrap Yard has Done that. Although toughness is always welcome and I have requirements for at least a minimum level of toughness. I personally believe Busse's 154CM should be tough enough for most knife uses on a 5" blade unless you want to pry heavily with it. In which case. NO and refer to the DMCG. Personally, I think SR-101 would be a better knife steel for this knife. And based on what you seem interested in, I would think you would benefit from SR-101 on this knife as well. Sadly, Busse has decided not to mix SR-101 with Res-C anymore. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> ------- Edited to add: Looks like I am a little behind in this post... trying to catch up reading and typing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> .

Like just about everyone else who has commented, I love the look of this S5. I am hoping it is 154CM, but in either steel, this is going to be a very popular knife.

Am I the only one here who still sees 154CM as a premium knife steel? 154CM is a VERY good knife steel. But, it can't take as much as SR-101 or SR-77. I think it takes and holds a GREAT edge. But, honestly it is a B*#H to get sharp. I think CPM154 is still a bit better and what I would call Premium stainless. As far as stainless goes, there are a few other very nice stainless steels out there. But, they are not even as tough as Busse's 154CM. I can't really see Busse using most of the premium stainless steels. While they can get incredibly sharp and hold an edge for very long times, the compromise of toughness is too great for most of the high end stainless steels. I like some of the "Premium" stainless steels on folders. S30V, S60V, S90V, ZDP, VG10, BG42 and some others are GREAT for folders that I don't torque on too much. But, I don't think I would want any of those steel on this S5. I am certain Busse's 154CM is tougher than "those" premium steels. While I do think 154CM will be good and fine. I just feel SR-101 would be better. SR-101 does EVERYTHING I want a knife this size to do and does EVERYTHING I want a knife to do in this size VERY well. And I don't have too many issues with SR-101 corrosion. So, I would be very good with SR-101. The trade-offs between SR-101 vs. 154CM: SR-101: tougher, easier to sharpen, but corrodes easier 154CM: not as tough, although tough enough for most any common use on a knife this size and pretty hard to sharpen. But, stainless. I like INFI even more, but INFI is SO expensive. I would also LOVE a knife this size in 3V. A2 would be good as well. .

Yep, it is a nice looking knife. I too hope it is stainless in that model and sr77 in the CG.
Alas, *sigh* that freakin' choil...dear God enough already!
I would bet my ex-girlfriends that it is every bit as big a choil as the dogfather's. Why?
The only reason I can see is that this is the SCRAP yard and that they already had choils before Dan even got a hold of them. Nothing else makes sense to me.
Oh well, should still make for a smart investment for re-sale down the road.
