You used to could buy Iodine in a dark brown bottle with a plastic q-tip looking applicator that was attached to the top. When you took the top off the "q-tip" came out with it and you swabbed the area with the iodine. And the Mercurochrome was another "infection fighter" like iodine.

I see now. You missed the letter U in your word "buy." Typo through me for a loop. It is still sold in most countries except the US where it has been banned due to its mercury content, according to Wikipedia.

Sorry about that JJ, I try and proof my typing but many times I just gloss over it and actually don't see my mistakes, and at other times I THINK I am spelling something correctly but actually get it wrong.
