OR crawl onto a rocket ship! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

If we are gonna do that we will need to hurry, the last one is going up soon, although I would assume security is pretty tight <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I was reading the other day about how they used to make leather armor by boiling it, it does something to the tannins and whatnot in the leather and makes it super hard. Tried it yesterday for a sheath but I boiled the leather to long and it became SUPER hard, like kydex almost

it was a fun experiment, might try again with lower heats and see what happens

I can believe it, as I know that the ancient Romans wore leather armor, much like the Samurai.

Hehe, so THAT's what I did to a Buck fixed blade sheath about 35 years ago. And all this time I thought it was the Microwaves fault! (Oh I had wet it first and just wanted to "dry it out" some.

I would think that boiled leather would make an interesting and tough sheath, but you would definitely need to drill the holes before stitching! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, thats a definate must, it also shrinks, by about 25% or so, I do think I boiled it WAY to long and to hot ,kinda turned the leather into jerky

Ity would give a sheath that "well used" look! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> "It started out as a sheath for a DogFather, but ended up a Dumpster Mutt sheath". <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

LOL, almost! I was making it for an SS4, I gave it an extra inch and a half or 2 inches of extra material, after it was done boiling, the sheath was to short, even if I could have worked it
