They just announced a new series of ribbons and commendations for the Army, here's the link

Those are great. I have the "Got this from a fake Navy Seal in a bar badge." <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

This story made me a little sick at my stomach.

What really bothers me is why he couldn't take some pride in what he really is. Not every warrior is an airborne ranger, a green beret, or a navy seal. Why would anyone feel the need to pretend to be a Navy Seal when he was apparently a competent enough airman to make TSGT? He is a disgrace to the USAF and their core values of Integrity First, Service before self, and Excellence in all we do.

Agreed. I have run across a few of these in my time and am dumbfounded by there lack of pride in their respective fields.

Now if I can just get them to come up with a sweet badge for combat correspondents. Maybe a DSLR camera with and eagle on top flanked by a pen and notepad <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

In my opinion, this guy is just a consequence of the "pnony world" in which we live, unfortunately. TV, newspapers ecc. are just full of phony people (most of them are rich and famous also), so maybe he's don't feel guilty to be a liar. Very sad :-(

ANYBODY that has served in ANY kind of service should be proud <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />. Like Vic said- during Viet Nam you didn't come home and talk about it- you jut stayed quiet. Nowadays- you have all these guys running around with stress disorders and there is nothing wrong with them or they were screwed up before they served in the first place. A real disgace and pretty [censored] disgusting IMO <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />. The guy in the bar was pathetic- but all these guys getting PTS $$ are also pathetic and maybe even moreso <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbdn.gif" alt="" />. Sooner or later it catches up with all of them in one way or another. Enjoy your badge Vic <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

OK, I'm half drunk now. Haven't been to Bourbon Street Bar & Grill in a while. I enjoyed seeing my friends and cronies tonight. The phony SEAL has not been around. The barmaid, a foxy young lady, was laughing about my dressing down of the phony. I did it in a loving and fatherly way, I thought. Did anyone really thing that at my age I am still a bada$$? My prayer is that the young man gets some self-esteem and takes some pride in his own accomplishments.

At our age it is better to just check out the foxy barmaid <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />.Best be careful though Vic- she " might" go for us and then we are in a world of trouble <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />. Talk about getting our butt kicked <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />. Great way to go though <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

That's the most important thing in life, the foxy barmaids! Hooah! Those women deserve medals, if just for putting up with some of the drunks who can't handle their booze.

While on the topic

Something that bothers me,
I was in the Navy,78-82.
There was no war,however
there could have been.
We were in the Gulf of Oman,Indian Ocean
all up there when Iran they had the hostages.
I was on the USS Independence Aircraft Carrier.
We had orders as soon as Ronald Regan was sworn into Office
to preform an Alpha Strike. (all flyable planes would load
up with bombs and go hit targets)
Fortunately they released the hostages before the planes took off.
There were a lot of 19yr old kids like myself, crappin in their pants
that night. The old timers were talkin'
"well boys, better write your momma goodbye, this is it...."
Anyway, what bothers me is why a non combat vet is treated differently
than a combat vet. Yes,I know those who served in combat
have seen/done things I could never imagine and rightfully
do deserve any Honors bestowed upon them, but
as far as military benefits,well,
there "could" have been a war break out while many of us served.

Ok,rant complete...
Just pissed at the way some of the Vets are treated because
of when they served.

(I do realize there is quite a difference volunteering
during a war vs peacetime)

I honor all veterans. When I was in Germany in the late 70s with the 1AD, I spent nine months of my first year there in the field. I lived in that tank. I was a tank platoon leader. We would roll out in the middle of the night on alerts to face the big red horde. We were ready for war. Same as when I was in England with the 81st Tac Fighter Wing in 1969-1971. We were on alert status and ready to send those F4 Phantoms off with nukes. I only served one year in actual war, from 1967-68, but that war was just the hot part of the bigger Cold War. All who served were defending our nation, whether they served in actual combat or not. I do especially honor those who saw combat. But all were willing and served when and where the nation needed them. To deter war with our military is preferable to getting into a war, IMO. You served your nation.

Anyone that serves, be they a spud peeler or a spook of the highest level, has my EQUAL respect.

nuff said, here is a WELL FILLED glass of 12 year Glenlivet raised in honor of ANYONE that has served.

nuff said!
