I remember my father bringing home cases of CRats when we lived in Germany....and I remembering LIKING those.
MRE's....that's another story.
In the early 1990's I always kept 3 or 4 cases of MRE's at my college apartment for "emergency provisions". I never actually ATE them though.
When Y2K started to be discussed I decided to put in a good supply of MRE's. After Y2K came and went I eventually decided to rotate the MRE's into my regular diet.

Freeze-Dried food is infinitely lighter and tastes really good. I know you have to have water to rehydrate it, but you're carrying the water weight INSIDE MRE products anyway...so just carry more water for FD rehydration.
They came up with the chemical MRE heaters so I'm sure the egg heads could invent something to boil water for FD prep as well.

Obama will still be our CiC. Fact. But being here in Afghanistan, i can tell you, MREs, in any capacity, are horrid. Also - ANOTHER fact. Why any civilian would EVER try to wanna-be cool and buy these for $8 a pop is beyond me!!!!!
