my problem is im a complete n00b. i have no idea how to set-up/frame/focal point or anything remotely knowledgeable with a camera.

Okay, so I can't find any of my pictures taken with old, crappy cameras. I'm disorganized. But, seriously, any point and shoot digicam can be used to make wonderful pics, if the other factors are in place.

I can give you strategies and tips for shooting butterflies in flight, but, honestly, I think you'll find it exceedingly difficult to take good shots of butterflies in flight, with that set up.

May I recommend landscapes, close-ups, and portraiture?

I really believe that, it's only harder! but very possible!!
