Black plain edge. I can't do the combo edge. I have a couple and dislike them.

I think it has an H&K logo but its Benchmade. I'm getting it directly from Benchmade.

OK, thanks. I have a few with serrations but I don't like them all that well either. They are fantastic if you are cutting something tough or fibrous, but I just don't care for them.

I wanted a thinner work blade. I have several Benchmades that i use for work. I need to send one back in for warranty work. I have an old auto reflex that the spring broke.

I'm betting they will just send me a newer model with a safety.

I know that with the modern blades, my thoughts are unfounded but I just can't get past the flimsiness of the older (cheaper) autos. They just seem to fragile to me for a working blade.

Skunk you touched on an interesting point. Are todays blade better that yesterdays?

Common sense would say that with today's technology, an amatuer knife maker should be able to build a beter blade than yesterdays masters. But seeing how common sense in neither common and seldom make sense, I wonder.

theres trade offs when it comes to old vs new ways of doing things. you didn't hasve high speed cutting and computer assisted precision 50 years ago. but you also didn't have the distractions. so now you may can build stuff in 2 days that used to take 2 weeks or 2 months. but in those 2 months of work the builder was able to pay closer attention to detail and was usually more invested in his work. as with most things the deeper the personal invest usually means a person will want to do a better job.

it used to be a man's life to make things. now it's just any other job or a past time that's taking him away from his life. at least how i'm seeing it.

There's always the trade-offs to consider in all things. But overall, are the blades produced today better that yesterdays? To really answer this highly subjective question, maybe "better" needs to be defined.
I have to believe that there are just plain better and more availability to superior metals for today’s knife makers than there was for the old world masters. Plus, today’s artists have the past to learn and build on.
Are the good old days for knife makers actually tomorrow?
