Randy, I just ordered a Source Assault ackpack. It was on sale on sourcetactical site: 61$ with free shipping. I think you should consider that back pack. You have a 3liter water bladder in the pack so you donīt even notice it. AND in addition you have room for your gear. If you need more space you can get the Patrol model.
For Patty I recommend a source 3 or 2 liter hydration carrier. Iīd prefer the 3 liter model (you donīt have to use the whole capasity every time). I have the 3 liter Tactical hydration carrier and I like it a lot. 3 liters of water and you donīt even notice it. There is also a small pocet for compass and fire steel.
I sent them an email asking what kind and weight material that pack is made of. I think I would work out nicely size wise. I'll just have to wait and see.
