S30V is my current pocket knife fav. The edge holding is just superb and it requires very little maintenance. In pocket knifes AUS-6/AUS-8/ATS-34 have all worked fine for me.

I have perhaps an irrational distrust of large stainless steel blades based on the bad experiences others have had. My hypothesis is that for stainless steel to hold a really good edge requires it to be hardened to the point that much toughness is lost and the knife becomes brittle. I have no scientific data to prove this, and as I said, it may just be irrational based on spurious observations.
