Yeah, and a pirate boat to boot. It might mean a ship used transporting slaves. Or it can mean the pirate himself, or similar shiftless rogues. I’m not sure if it started as a term for pirate and transferred to the boat, or as a name for the boat and transferred to the crewman.
It’s also a long pole with a point and a hook used by loggers and stevedores. I used to use one myself, loading logs onto ships.
It’s also a short pike. Since a pike is a long spear, we’re back where we started. I don’t know the dimensions of the one Lewis used. I would guess a six foot staff with a socket dagger on top.
