I ride a Honda VTR1000 Superhawk (V-twin). I have been riding for about 18 years. I love the speed and handling. I am about 6'2" and some of the sport-bikes (repli-racers) are just a little too tight or bent over for me. The VTR has a nice balance with just enough lean for good handling and just enough upright for comfort.
I purchased my bike used and have had ZERO issues. It has been a great bike.
You can usually save $2000 - $4000 by purchasing a 2-3 year old bike. There are many out there with very low miles. Usually, it is reasonably easy to tell how well a bike has been maintained by just looking over the bike.

I have heard and read MANY great reviews about the SV650. I prefer the SV650S. I like the silver. I have not personally ridden one, but I have read so many great things that I have recommended the bike to others who are just getting into riding. It is plenty of good bike. I am partial to V-twin sport-bikes.

I don't have anti-lock brakes. I have never had them and I have never had a problem locking up my brakes. Even if and when I do lock up my rear wheel, it is an instant and easy fix. Too me, one of the great aspects of riding a motorcycle is being in tune to the machine. If the bike is a quality bike, tuned properly and with good quality tires (grip and traction is HIGH on my list), I would think an anti-lock system could be annoying (???) and likely a waste of money. I don't want to say not to get anti-lock. It is great for cars. I just don't think I would want it. Motorcycles are not the same as cars. Most decent sport-bikes have excellent brakes.
