I got the call about 10 minutes after I got to work yesterday that I was to report to the Warden's office. I figured that I was either getting a pee test, or laid off. However, since my immediate supervisor came along I figured a pee test was out of the question.

The Warden basically told me that the Department of Corrections was elimating my position. However, the best part was that nobody seems to know when that will be. So I'm loosing my job, but I don't know when exactly. So I don't know when to start looking for a new job.

The most frustrating part is that I'm really the only teacher there who gets off their butt and teaches. The special education teacher basically sits in her office and surfs the web and lets us do her work, and the other teacher there sits on her butt most of the time and lets her inmate aides do almost all of the teaching. I have more teaching experience than the other two, and I've produced tangible results. However, they have more time in the system than I do.

In 18 months that I've been there I've produced about 50 GED graduates, and I've got another 10 lined up for next month. The special education teacher, who was the ged teacher produced less than 50 GED graduates in the 4 years that she ran the program.

The worst part of it is that I really feel for my inmates. I have a lot of guys who, for the first time in their lives are excited about school and actually see it as something positive. I don't look forward to telling them this morning.

Peace
Jerry

Jerry I am sorry to hear this news.

There is a saying ..."If you have a job you can get a job, if you don't, you cant" With this said get off your backside and find another job while you have this one and do it now!!!

Don't stand around wondering "who took your cheese". If you haven't heard this line go to the book store and buy a book called "Who Moved My Cheese" it will help you get the focus you need to move past this situation. It is a quick read and I think it costs around 10 bucks

We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
