This is a max for any distance or rough terrain. I hear people talk about how they can handle a 65 pound ruck. Well, what about when you're getting shot at? Do you want to hump that in addition to your ammo and firearms when someone is trying to kill you? I don't.
Easy solution to this is to hit the quick release on your pack, let it fall and turn toward the enemy and kill them. Then you can walk away. These colors don't run from a fire fight. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
In all seriousness, I agree with Arch. I don't put too much thought into bugging out though. I can tell you that I have never been on any combat patrols with a 65lb pack! That is ridiculous without taking into account what you may have strapped to your body armor plus weapons.
