If one wants a pretty knife, get a Buck Special with cocabola wood handle and brass hardware. Just don't expect the toughness a scrapper has. Scrappers are made for hard use, not to look at. I never noticed any gap, but I can verify thru personal use that the 911 is one tough, sharp, hard use knife.
