I've got several swords and a spear made of 5160. It does have a tendency to rust if not satin finished, you have to keep it protected and wipe off the fingerprints. It's pretty darn tough with a good HT, and I think it would be great for a big 'ole SYKCO chopper!

What kind of spears do you have? I'm a big fan of them.

Always thought it would be great to have a nice knife with a good method of attaching and disconnecting from a walking stick (chinese white wax) to make a spear.
I'm familiar with the Cold Steel bushcraft version, but am thinking something a little more "knife" like that could stand alone and look and perform decent without looking like it's a spearhead without the shaft.

Right now I only have one spear. It's a one off from Jeff Hedgecock long before he started Historic Enterprises. It's a small leaf style blade. I'll see if I can dig it out and get a picture.

A lot of the SCA folk use screw pins so you can take the spear head off quickly and easily.
