I've been wearing this for awhile and love it. The Monster is a beast.

Some G Shock something or another, as a watch it has "no soul" like a nice steel divers watch does, but it is practical and functional for me. Got it in trade from the ESEE forum so it was cheap (like me wink ) as well.

I have been nagging my jeweler to get a monster in for about 3 months now I think I may have her ready to get one.

I just got these two yesterday.

I love my G-Shocks. They take a beating, and still look good.

My first watch was a wind-up my Dad gave me when I was in 6th grade. I miss the simplicity and wish I had another. Anyone know of a good wind-up mechanical watch?

I don't like electric watches. They are dependent on batteries that can be hard to find. AND they usually aren't that easy to replace.

Thanks for the recommendation. Without researching them I can tell you they're too rich for my blood. They hold their value like Busse knives. I would definitely love to have one though.

Right now I have a Marathon TSAR. It cost me $425 4 years ago and that killed me. They make an automatic version, but it's nearly double the price.

Are they water resistant? Can they handle being submerged? I don't plan to do any deepwater diving.

Both of mine are. The Submariner (water proof) specially, to 300M!

The Oyster I don't think lists a depth but I've been told it is HIGHLY water resistant, maybe even waterproof to at least 100ft, but I don't want to find out. I DO know the Submariner is waterproof to at least 112ft.

I recently had a birthday and my dad offered a trade ... My Black Monster Gen. 2 on a Super Engineer 2 bracelet for his Speedmaster Pro. Easy decision for me. I love that Seiko. It had accompanied me to many countries the Corps has sent me to, but I can still remember asking dad if I could wear his watch when I was about seven years old, more than three decades ago. Every once and a while he would give in and I would press the buttons and time everything ... How long commercials were, how long my sister would talk without taking a breath, etc.

When we swapped watches, he told me where he got it. His war story was about down time in Vietnam. He was a helicopter pilot for the Army and won it off a Marine in a poker game. The Marine was out of cash but still wanted to bet his hand, so we offered up his Speedy. My dad said OK and called with $300. The Marine laughed as this didn't cover the value of the watch. Yet, he was confident and let it play. Dad beat his full house with a bigger full house.

The only things I know for certain is dad was a helicopter pilot in the Army, served in Vietnam and I have his watch. I'm thinking the poker game may be true, but he probably changed a soldier into a Marine to take a stab at his jarhead son.
