i like analog sound for what it is. more character... digital music production took away may of the artifacts that some people had gotten used to. even the pops and clicks or hiss of a tape cassette. it's sort of like adding flourescent lights to a room. you may seem more in the room but it also screws with the ambience and reveals that big spot on the carpet that previously sat in the shadows.
I guess I am different, I prefer digital over tapes and records.
As a kid we did our best to get rid of that extra noise, and now as adults many year for it again

yup.. why i said "I like analog for what it is"... I have spent many weeks and a good bit of money to have the volume at 10+ and not hear a thing. just to play on note and be blown away. i stopped just short of a stupid crazy surround sound rig I was working on. but I also have some gear from 1970's that simply cannot be beat.

I could be wrong on this, my memory isn't all that great at the best of times, let alone trying to remember back that far!

Oh, I always wanted a reel to reel. Just couldn't ever justify the cost.
mine even doubles as a pa

I inherited mine, they were not that common when i was a kid.
The big thing was cassettes and for awhile 8 tracks

I remember them all and can remember getting portable 8 track players. The cassette was just beginning. I don't think of myself as old but I guess when we start saying things like"I remember when I was little"

My mother told me if didn't have anything nice to say then don't say anything but that never stopped me before.

don't recall a 4 track playback unit. there are 4 track recoding units. it allows you to use both stereo channels on a tape to record 4 individual signals. they are fairly specialized and you don't really find them outside of music recording.

Like I said, I might be wrong. I remember my cousin had one in his truck and I could have sworn said it was a 4 track player.
