And I do LOVE my 1311, although I never felt the CGDF was less adequate. My 10" Ranger 9 (made by Justin from a Busse blank) is a chopping machine--probably easier to tear through wood than the DF precisely for the reason you state. It's still friggin thick at the spine, but it is FFG, and therefore much lighter than the DF. I still love them all!
